Case Study - Shrewsbury Prison Refurbishment

shrewsbury-ba shrewsbury-bb

Interserve the main contractors for the refurbishment of Shrewsbury Prison approached duRose to replace the safety netting between the landings at Shrewsbury prison with a new up to date system, bringing it in line with current regulations.
duRose had been recommended by other prisons who were very impressed with the work that we had done for them.
Once Interserve became aware of our other design and fabrication skills and experience they asked us to tender for a number of other projects including, replacing the balustrades, stairs, gates, fire doors and emergency egress ladders.
Due to the prison being a listed building the work had to be of a similar design to the Victorian cast iron work already in place, at the same time as complying with current building regulations.

duRose succeeded in securing the tender in its entirety including, design, structural calculations and manufacture. The manufacturing was carried out in the duRose factory and then installed on site by our team of steel erectors.

The main obstacle in fulfilling this project was that the work had to be completed within a ‘live prison’ environment.  We were able to comply with all the security requirements at all times during the project.

The project was completed to schedule and with minimal disruption to the day-to-day activities of the prison.
